Liverpool continued their unstoppable form under Arne Slot as they brushed aside West Ham United 5-0.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota did the trick for the Reds in what was an absolute rout away from home.

Liverpool are now eight points clear of second-placed Nottingham Forest despite having a game in hand, making them firm favourites for the Premier League title.

Salah has been the star of the show this season and took centre stage once again at the London Stadium.

The Egyptian missed a series of chances but scored just before half-time, although it could be argued that West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola should have done a lot better to prevent it.

After the interval, it looked like the Reds would take their foot off the pedal as they were already 3-0, but that wasn’t to be the case, with Salah leading from the front as usual.

He wasn’t at his best by any stretch of the imagination but produced another telling contribution late in the game as he set up Jota.

In doing so, Salah notched up his 14th goal contribution in December 2024, making him the player with most goal contributions in a single month in Premier League history.

The previous best was by Luis Suarez during the 2013-14 season when he notched up 13.

The Anfield faithful will certainly remember that time fondly as the Uruguayan was playing the best football of his career for a Liverpool side making an unlikely push for the title.

Salah’s stats this season

Salah already has 30 goal involvements in the Premier League season and is undoubtedly the best footballer in the world at the moment.

His underlying numbers prove that he’s set for an absolutely historic season and if he carries on in the same vein, the Premier League title should return to Anfield after five years.

Don Hutchison feels Salah is a better player currently than Kylian Mbappe and one look at their respective numbers this season is enough to see why.

If the Egyptian spearheads Liverpool to a couple of trophies in 2025, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be in the running to get his hands on the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
